Weighing the options of eating organic whole foods

Most people choose organic for one reason: to avoid consuming potentially-dangerous pesticides. Contaminants are, in fact, present in 76% of the fruits and vegetables we take home from the market, but according to the USDA, only .2% of recently tested samples exceeded tolerance levels set by the federal government. Does that mean there's nothing to worry about? Not exactly. An additional experiment showed that 23 children eating a "conventional" whole food diet tested positive for organophosphate pesticide residue. When those same 23 children were switched to an all-organic diet, the residue fell to nondetectable levels. As soon as the kids went back to their regular diets, levels rose again.

Authorities state that of the 100 main pesticides used in agriculture, only 2 or 3 have been shown to cause cancer in animal studies. Still, most people agree it's reasonable to be cautious because, after all, pesticides are chemicals that were designed to cause harm.

Organic activists also insist that organic is more nutritious, but researchers say that it's still too early to know if every organic tomato or peach is likely to have a nutritional edge. But chances are good that they do. A sure way to increase the nutritional impact of any whole food is make meals in the Vita-Mix machine. Research has shown that Vita-Mix processing has the power to break open cell walls to release up to three times the nutrition.

In reality, choosing an organic whole food diet over a conventional one is not "black and white." There are other issues such as whether the produce is local, how far has it come to reach the table, who grew it and how it was grown. Going organic involves a bit of a balance and a lot of common sense, but ultimately it's a matter of choice. An easy, cost-effective way to get started is to start a small organic garden of your own. BREAKING NEWS:
PEANUT BUTTER RECALL
Vita-Mix nut butter
CONTAMINATION CAN BE A BIG RISK WITH
PROCESSED FOODS

Recent News of peanut butter contamination and subsequent product recalls make a real case for preparing homemade nut butters in the Vita-Mix machine. Since you control the ingredients and the processing, there are never any nasty surprises.

Vita-Mix processing is quick and easy; a jar of whole peanuts becomes fresh, warm peanut butter in only a minute. Vita-Mix peanut butter is smooth, spreadable and the flavor is fabulous.

Peanuts are the only ingredient, so it's just as easy to go gourmet and try fresh cashew or almond butter, too. Either way, you'll never again have to worry about poisonous contaminants or unhealthy additives and preservatives present in processed peanut butter. Once you taste this Vita-Mix treat you'll never again settle for store-bought.

Try this delicious, pure,
homemade nut butter

Whole Foods are Nature's Best Medicine

WHOLE FOODS ARE NATURE'S BEST MEDICINE
This is not recent news, but thanks to numerous scientific studies, years of research and broad endorsements by well-known medical professionals, more and more people realize every day that whole foods are not a fad, they are nature's preventive medicine.

It all comes down to fighting free radicals. Oddly enough, free radicals are the price we pay for breathing. Generated by our own cells and spurred on by outside factors such as sunlight, smoking and pollution, free radicals are crippled oxygen molecules that damage healthy cells and cause hardening of the arteries, cancer and other chronic, degenerative diseases. In fact, recent research suggests that 80% to 90% of all cancers are not inherited, but are caused by DNA defects brought about by choices we make in our daily life.

On the positive side, research also shows that choosing whole foods filled with antioxidants and phytonutrients is the best way to slow free-radical damage and the resulting oxidative stress.

More good news: The benefits to switching over to a diet filled with fruits, vegetables and whole grains brings almost instantaneous results. For example, cholesterol can drop in five days. High blood pressure can come down in as little as two weeks. And it only takes three days for your immune system to strengthen.

In a nutshell, deciding to adopt a whole food lifestyle is as important as adding to your 401K. Invest now, for big returns later. And the benefits begin immediately.

What do we mean by "whole foods"? Much of the nutrition is trapped in the seeds, peels and fiber of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Only your powerful Vita-Mix machine can break open the cell walls of your fresh whole fruits, vegetables and grains to deliver all the "good news"!
