For more than 80 years, Vita-Mix® Corporation has defined the high end of the blender category with innovative products for professional chefs and home cooking enthusiasts.

Company History

The company was founded in 1921 by W.G. Barnard, a self taught sales man of “modern” home products. In 1937, he created a stir at the Great Lakes Exposition in Ohio with his enthusiastic demonstration of an amazing new product - the first Vita-Mix blender. As innovator on many fronts, W.G. Barnard also invented the infomercial in 1949, and he used it to make Vita-Mix a household name.

The growing Vita-Mix business is now under the direction of the third and fourth generation of the Barnard family. Their focus is continuous product improvement through customer feedback and the power of sophisticated research and testing.

Vita-Mix Today

Today, Vita-Mix distributes its line in more than 45 countries. Transcending the limitations of conventional blenders, Vita-Mix machines offer the power, control and options required by top chefs in the best professional kitchens.

Vita-Mix launched its retail division in 2000 to bring its professional style products to home chefs. Today, with growing demand for professional tools in home kitchens, Vita-Mix is expanding its presence at gourmet and specialty retailers.

In 2006, Vita-Mix’s retail division formed a partnership with The Culinary Institute of America® (CIA), bringing together the high-end category leader in blending equipment with the world’s premier culinary college. The CIA Professional Series is Vita-Mix’s first product introduction with the CIA. A portion of the proceeds will benefit CIA Scholarship Fund, helping aspiring chefs fulfill their passion for food.
