Vita-Mix® Corporation Celebrates 90th Anniversary

CLEVELAND – A celebration of 90 years of success has begun at Vita-Mix Corporation. From its humble beginnings as a one-man, door-to-door sales company in 1921, the company has sustained continual growth throughout the last 90 years and now holds an international presence as one of the leading manufacturers of blending equipment in the world. Anniversary celebrations in 2011 are highlighting some of the founding, core principles of the company and the energizing impact they have had during nine decades of its existence. 

“Throughout the years, we’ve learned valuable lessons and have built this company on foundational elements that are tried and true,” said Vitamix President, Jodi Berg. “It is our vision to continue to improve the vitality of people’s lives and liberate the world from conventional food and beverage preparation boundaries.”

In recognition of the historic anniversary, Vitamix will devote portions of the year to reflecting on the success of the company and paying tribute to the people who made it possible. 

“None of this company’s accomplishments could have been attained without the support of a massive network of people,” said Berg. “The word that truly defines the company’s 90th birthday is ‘gratitude.’ As an organization, Vitamix is reliant on our incredible employees, sales affiliates and retailers, supporters and, certainly, our customers. Our gratitude to all these groups embodies the sentiment of this occasion. We are exceptionally grateful to every person who contributes to this great company.”

During a special employee appreciation event held in February, actress Marilu Henner – star of the hit television show Taxi, Broadway headliner and New York Times best-selling author – addressed employees who work at the Cleveland headquarters. 

“There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t use my Vitamix – the number one health product I recommend to my members at,” she said. “It’s more than a machine; it’s a miracle.”

During the ceremony, Berg also presented eight themes that serve as the pillars of the company, and the reasons for its success.

To commemorate its 90th anniversary, Vitamix distributed a national invitation to Vitamix owners, employees, friends and affiliates to submit stories about how the Vitamix machine has inspired them or changed their lives. Fifty of these submissions were compiled into a hard-bound book titled, Gratitude: 90 Years of Inspiration. Each passage is a first-person narration of how Vitamix impacted the author’s life. From people who successfully battled obesity and life-threatening illness because of the machine’s ability to foster healthy eating habits, to entrepreneurs who established and grew restaurants as a result of the machine’s multi-functionality, each story is an account of positive achievement.
