Lion's Tale

  • ½ ounce Allspice Dram (See recipe below)
  • ¾ ounce fresh lime juice
  • Dash of bitters
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup
  • 2 ounces bourbon


  1. Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake.
  2. Strain into a glass and garnish with a lime wheel.


Allspice Dram:


  • 50 grams whole allspice berries
  • 6 black peppercorns
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • 225 ml 151° rum
  • 300 grams granulated sugar
  • 300 ml water


  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Place allspice, peppercorn, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg on a baking sheet and roast for 10-15 minutes, or until fragrant.
  2. Transfer roasted spices to the Vitamix container and secure lid.
  3. Select Variable 1.
  4. Start machine and slowly increase to its highest speed.
  5. Blend for 15 seconds, or until finely ground.
  6. Stop machine and add rum to the Vitamix container.
  7. Select Variable 1.
  8. Start machine and slowly increase to its highest speed.
  9. Blend for 10 to 15 seconds.
  10. Combine sugar and water to make simple syrup. Using a superfine chinois, strain blended allspice mixture into the syrup. Pour the liquid through a funnel into a glass bottle.
