Vitamix Named Recipient of "Health Care Heroes" Award
Crain’s Cleveland Business Honors Vitamix for Innovative Employee Health Benefits and Wellness Plan 03/27/2015
CLEVELAND—In recognition of its comprehensive employee health benefits and wellness plan, Vitamix has received the Crain’s Cleveland Business 2015 Health Care Heroes Award for Corporate Achievement in Health Care. In its eighth year, the Health Care Heroes Awards program recognizes honorees for their dedication to promoting health and wellness and to improving community health throughout Northeast Ohio.
The award-winning Vitamix wellness program is an extension of the company’s vision, which is to improve the vitality of people’s lives and liberate the world from conventional food and beverage preparation boundaries. From nutrition education to preventive care to exercise, Vitamix commits resources to help employees reach their personal health and fitness goals. Employees have access to a certified nutritionist and personal trainer, as well as walking trails and an on-site fitness center at some locations offering daily workout classes.
“Vitamix is committed to helping people live better and healthier lives, and that commitment extends to our employees,” said Dennis Armstrong, Vitamix chief human resources officer. “We encourage a culture of health and wellness throughout the workplace, and we’re seeing positive results both in employee health and the bottom line.”
Armstrong says the company’s health and wellness programs have led to decreases in medical care and prescription drug costs, and improvements in biometric results, which provide employees with information on current and potential medical issues.
The Vitamix wellness program also incorporates the product itself—high-performance blenders that are coveted by people around the world who are looking for a quick, easy and delicious way to improve their health by consuming more whole foods. All employees receive a free Vitamix within 90 days of joining the company for their own personal use at home, and they have access to machines in every break room.
Vitamix will receive its Corporate Achievement in Health Care award at the Health Care Heroes Awards luncheon on Tuesday, June 2 at The Cleveland Convention Center.
Vita-Mix® Corporation (“Vitamix”) is a privately held family-owned and -operated company founded in 1921 that manufactures high-performance blending equipment for home and commercial use. A recognized leader in marketing and product innovation, Vitamix founder William G. “Papa” Barnard created one of the first infomercials in 1949 to demonstrate how the Vitamix blender could help people improve their health with whole foods, and the company developed the first true commercial blender in the early 1990s, which ignited the smoothie movement. Vitamix, whose products are known worldwide for their performance, durability, and reliability, continues to win awards for product innovation and is a recipient of the president’s prestigious “E” Award for Exports. Headquartered in Olmsted Township, Ohio, 19 miles from Cleveland, Vitamix products are manufactured in Northeast Ohio and sold in approximately 100 countries.
