The right size for me
I have been thinking about this purchase for awhile! I have been reluctant to buy an expensive blender because I'm a one person household and don't want a lot of appliances I'm not going to use in a small kitchen. I lived with a larger top quality blender before and found it to big to make smaller quantities.
This is perfect. I love the smoothie to go cup to take to work. It is sitting on the counter and I am using it everyday. I have only had it about a month but it looks like heavy duty top quality and simple construction. If it lives up to its long lasting reputation I will be 100% happy customer. So far perfect. Helping me to live a healthier life!!

The only good thing about this model
Is that it takes up less counter space. I make daily fresh smoothies and the ingredients are constantly getting stuck in the narrow part of the container, I have to stop the blades and push the ingredients down several times. What used to take me 1 minute in a kitchenaid blender now takes me over 3 minutes and creates a huge mess with the spoon drippings and splashes from having to push the ingredients down several times and get the blades to catch. The whole point of buying this expensive appliance is for high quality performance and ease of use. Very disappointed with my first vitamix product. Will be going back to kitchenaid as soon as I can!

What a wonderful product!
I am so happy that I bought myself a Vitamix! The recepe book that comes with it has great suggestions that are mostly healthy! It is easy to clean and works well. They give you all of the directions that you need to be able to use it properly and it is a versatile product! I have gone from grinding up coffee beans in it to making smoothies and soups within minutes because it is so easy to clean!!

Motor is too weak, constantly overheats
I have owned the 700 series Vitamix for years and it is excellent, so I am a fan of their products. The S50 has been a horrible disappointment. I bought it to make smoothies in a to go cup and it would consistently overheat and freeze up with my normal smoothie recipe. I sent it back for repair and bought a Bullet for $69 while I waited to get it back. The Bullet had absolutely no problem with the same recipe, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS considering it costs a fraction of the Vitamix. Vitamix replaced it and sent it back, but I have the same problems over and over. This version of their product was simply not designed well for the task, which is very surprising given the quality of their other products. More suprising is that they have not fixed it yet as this is a 2+ year old problem.

As the owner of two other Vitamix blenders, I must say that I am very disappointed in the S50. The performance does not measure up to the same quality that we have come to know and expect from a Vitamix. I bought this unit to keep at the office for my protein shakes and smoothies and I'm sorry to say that it leaves ice and unblended chunks. Quite a difference from the Super 5000 or the Creations GC!

Great compact blender!
I use it just about every day to make fruit smoothies. The 20 oz cup is a bit tricky (frozen fruit will get stuck in the narrow part) so there is a little bit of a learning curve, but the cup is perfect for taking my smoothie on the go. Now that I have it figured out I view this blender as an essential part to a healthy diet that helps me get in the fruit I need. I like being able to remove the blade base to clean it well and knowing I can get a new one makes it a great choice (the blades have always failed me on cheap blenders).

Was so excited to own a Vitamix and I am thoroughly disappointed!! This thing freezes up often. Manual suggest many different things to stop it but it just doesn't matter. Doubt I will buy another one. Super sad.

Best personal blender on the market
I purchased the S50 less than a month ago, and I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and power. The Personal Series is for customers who prefer to make single or small servings. I am a one-person household, so I knew this would be the right choice. Although the Personal Series on paper has less power than the Legacy or Ascent Series, it is still an extraordinarily powerful machine. It has all the capabilities of the larger models, ranging from making hot soups to silky smooth frozen desserts and nut butters. The only caveat is that recipes may require slightly longer blending times to achieve the same results as larger models–or so I read. This is to be expected since the Personal Series uses a smaller motor!
My initial reaction when I picked up the S50 was that Vitamix did not compromise on quality. The components feel very solid. At first, I was hesitant to spend the money on a Vitamix since I was satisfied enough with the Nutri-Bullet at a fraction of the cost. However, you get what you pay for, which not only shows in the build quality, but also the blending results. A Vitamix really is an investment because it will be the last blender you ever purchase.
Blending results are outstanding each time I use it. Of course, I follow the instructions from Vitamix, but I am also very familiar with the personal blender realm. If you are using the 20-ounce container, you have to be methodical in how you load the ingredients. Since the 20-ounce container will not allow the use of the tamper, you must use enough liquid to get a consistent and smooth blend. The solid ingredients I load into the container always end up sitting close to the top, and I pour the liquid last to fill the container to about 3/4 full. If you prefer a thicker result, you are much better off using the 40-ounce container with the tamper.
As for cleanup, it is a breeze. You have to remove the blade and the rubber gasket to properly clean it unlike the larger models where everything is sealed together. Honestly, it takes about 5-10 seconds to rinse the blade and rubber gasket. Some people have indicated it is an inconvenience because the larger models have the ability to self clean. For me, this is not an inconvenience at all. Welcome to the realm of personal blenders.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. If you are on the fence about buying a Vitamix because of the cost, please take my word for it when I say it is worth every single penny.
