SIZE MATTERS! (Of ice, and oranges!)
I think the wide variety of reviews on the Vitamix recipies are due to the vast variety of ripeness, size, quality, and type of the fruit available. The size of the ice could be specified to get a more consistent result, but fruit will always be a toss-up. What we did that made it 5 stars: Five "Cutie," brand tangerine-type oranges (they're about an inch in diameter), and one standard, manual ice cube tray of ice cubes. Followed the recipies instructions, and it made 30 oz. of perfect sorbet, with the four perfect mounds. My 11 and 9 year old boys and I wolfed it down!

Clemen...FINE Sorbet
My son and I grabbed a Navel orange and added Clementines, followed this simple recipe and had a FANTASTIC dessert in less that 5 minutes. Frozen Raspberries make this treat even better! (next time we'll try mixing them right in) Sometimes 7 yr olds have the best ideas.

Tweaked to make Orangesicle.
Made to recipe except...
1. Added 1 TBS of real vanilla
2. Added 1/2 cup of half & half.
Froze 2/3 of it and slurped up the rest as a smoothie.
I suggest that real cream would be better or a scoop of a vanilla smoothie mix to thicken this into a sherbet vs. sorbet. I bet the sorbet is awesome. Trying it next.

Orange Tree
3rd recipe with my new 2500. Followed recioe, just zested one of the two oranges and threw what I could into it. Measured ice by weight because of the conflicting reviews. It came out pretty much as expected. Tried tamping down as it went but still ended up with a good amount of ice chunks on top. Used over ripe oranges picked off my tree. Flavor was pretty good. I would add a splash of orange juice in the future and maybe double the sugar to sweeten it up a bit. Overall though a great base recipe for future tweaking.

couple problems with this recipe
Terrific idea in principle, but I think something's wrong with the recipe. There's no way that two oranges and 4.5 cups of ice cubes fit into my Vitamix (64 oz). I managed to get close to 3 cups of ice in there, but it was a push. Even so, the results were disappointing. Consistency and color were fine, but there was barely any sense or taste of orange. If I were to try this again I'd probably freeze some orange juice to use for the recipe.

Its a good base
The recipe was ok like this but when i added a half a lime to it, it really made a difference.
And if you want a creamcicle just add some vanilla greek yogurt to it

Terrible!
This recipe contains way too much ice and not nearly enough orange. The machine can't handle 4.5 cups of ice, and the resulting product has very little taste.

Yummo!
Very refreshing and super quick to make. Didn't have oranges, so used 4 clementines. Worked fine for us.
