Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
This creamy, spreadable frosting has just four ingredients and comes together in seconds.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup (225 g) butter, softened
- 3½ cup powdered sugar
Directions
- Place ingredients into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure the lid.
- Select Variable 1.
- Switch machine to start and slowly increase Variable 10, then high.
- Blend for 45 seconds to 1 minute using the tamper to push the ingredients into the blades.*
Notes
*Blend just until all powder sugar is incorporated and immediately stop or melting of butter will occur and frosting will thin out. If this does happen, just toss the buttercream mixture into the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes until set and able to pipe onto cake or pastries.

Good recipe
I was afraid that, a. the frosting wouldn't be thick enough to stick, and b., that it would be too thick to blend properly. The motor did work hard enough to smell hot, but if you start on 1 and gradually increase the speed, lo and behold, you get a perfect buttercream. I made four batches and the last I let run a bit long and got a warm buttercream that was a bit too runny until I chilled it a few minutes, but WHAT a time saver. Took food color well, looked great. Good consistency.

I was a skeptic...
I admit, I had very little faith that this was going to work in my Vitamix 5300, but, thankfully I received a very pleasant surprise! I followed the instructions exactly. I had let the butter sit to room temperature, so the final product was slightly too soft. I put it in a pastry bag and put it in the fridge for about 10 minutes and it worked great. I'm pretty pleased that I now have this tool for quick buttercream!

My Vitamix did not like this!
The butter jammed and my Vitamix made way too much noise. I had to add too much more milk, which made it runny. Also, I used half the sugar and it was still too sweet. I wish I'd tried it by hand.
