Make your meals merry by adding a holiday spice or herb (such as nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, cardamom, star anise, sage, or rosemary) to a traditional recipe. One of the greatest things about owning a Vitamix is how easy it is to experiment and create new recipes. Remember to start with small amounts of seasonings and increase gradually to taste as the Vitamix will intensify their flavors.
Try a tablespoon of chopped, fresh rosemary (1 teaspoon dried) in the Whole Wheat Bread (add with wet ingredients.) Rosemary is also a fragrant addition to potato soups like Cream of Potato Soup. Warm up Sweet Potato Soup with a tablespoon of fresh, minced ginger (1/2 to 1 teaspoon powdered) and salt to taste.
Bump up the holiday flavor of Vanilla Custard Sauce by adding 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and reducing the vanilla to 1/2 teaspoon—tastes just like eggnog! Add a little rum or bourbon for adult tastes, starting with a tablespoon.
Embrace the zip of peppermint by adding a drop or two of peppermint extract to Chocolate Ice Cream before blending; serve it sprinkled with candy canes that you’ve crushed in the Vitamix blender.
