Nothing brings people together like Chocolate Fondue. This rich, creamy treat turns a simple dessert into a fun, shared experience that’s sure to be the hit of any get-together. Originally a savory Swiss dish made of melted cheese and wine, fondue got its sweet makeover in the 1960s by a New York City restaurateur who was promoting a new candy bar. After its peak in the Seventies, fondue was considered cheesy (pun intended) by some, but it’s experiencing a resurgence of popularity with restaurants and cookbooks dedicated to the dish.
This recipe is easy to make and endlessly customizable. The Vitamix Culinary team substituted almond milk for heavy cream to reduce calories and saturated fat. You can make this recipe your own, too. Experiment with different chocolates—even white— or use your favorite milk. Boost the flavor with nuts, fruit, caramel, or spices. Get really creative with dippers—try fresh or dried fruits, marshmallows, or graham crackers. Be decadent and use poundcake or cheesecake bites as dippers. Go swalty and dip pretzels, popcorn, or potato chips.
Be sure to observe fondue etiquette while you and friends enjoy this delicious dessert:
Don’t double dip! Once your dipper touches your lips, don’t put it back in the fondue pot.
Do pace yourself. If you find yourself outdipping everyone else, take a break before going back in.
Don’t put your fondue fork or skewer in your mouth. Instead, slide your dipped dipper onto your plate.
Enjoy!
