Dr. Joel Fuhrman, board-certified family physician and author of several books, including The New York Times national bestseller Eat to Live, visited the Vitamix world headquarters and its operations facility on April 19, 2013, to talk to the company’s more than 500 employees about making healthy eating choices.

During his two-hour presentation and Q&A period, Dr. Fuhrman encouraged employees to take steps toward becoming the nation’s healthiest company. With access to Vitamix machines both at work and at home, Fuhrman stressed that Vitamix employees could easily make all kinds of delicious, healthy meals every day, just as he does with his own Vitamix blender.

With detailed medical information and personal anecdotes on how food affects our health, Dr. Fuhrman emphasized the importance of a plant-based diet to prevent major illnesses, such as diabetes and heart disease. Among many tips for making healthier lifestyle choices was an acronym for super foods: “G-BOMBS,” which stands for Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries, and Seeds. Furhman recommends eating at least one serving of each on a daily basis, and shared his Antioxidant Rich Smoothie (recipe below), which includes three of these powerful ingredients.

The presentation to employees was an abridged version of the one Dr. Fuhrman gave to a sold-out crowd in PlayhouseSquare’s State Theater in downtown Cleveland on April 18, 2013, an event that was free to the public and sponsored by Vitamix.

Dr. Fuhrman has appeared on numerous talk shows, including The Dr. Oz Show, The Today Show, and Good Morning America. For more information, visit www.drfuhrman.com.
