There’s just something about a granita that helps your guests feel special and pampered. This simple fruit juice and sugar syrup combination uses the same ingredients as a sorbet, but is purposely icy and granular, somewhat like a snow cone in texture, but much more intensely flavored. You can end your meal with a granita, or serve a small portion between courses to refresh the palate.
To create a granita with the Vitamix blender, simply pour the few combined ingredients into a baking pan and freeze. Break the frozen mixture into large pieces with a fork, and pulse several times in the blender on Variable Speed 1 or 2.
Try the granitas below, then invent your own flavors using the Vitamix recipe as a template. For example, many of our fruit juice recipes can be quickly turned into a granita, such as Carrot Juice Plus and Pineapple Juice.
Granitas look beautiful and elegant served in any dessert or martini glass.
- Pink Grapefruit Granita: Fine restaurants often serve this simple granita between courses to refresh the diner’s palate. Now you can do the same at home.
- Herbed Apple Granita: Tarragon gives a delicious lilt to this apple granita. Create new flavors by experimenting with herbs like mint, cilantro, and basil.
