Rated 5 out of 5 by BKCA from Naturally sweet! The orange adds a great natural sweetness that my 6 and 8 year old loved! I used 1/2 cup water with about 1/2 cup ice cubes because my banana wasn't frozen. I would think the fresher your ingredients, the less water and more ice you could change out to increase the thickness. Great easy recipe!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Snelson from Good balanced taste; not too sweet I've always had a love for green smoothies, but I thought about trying some fruit smoothies this week. Tried this simple recipe and I really enjoyed it. Every fruit balances each other. I followed the recipe exactly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Arri from Great if you like bannanas It is so good! It is great for kids and is healthy too! It has a strong banana taste that might not be for you, if banana is not your thing. However, I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by JohnO from Great smoothies I use about 4oz of OJ, a handful of frozen blueberries, 1/2 fresh banana, maybe some pure grape juice or other juice we might have, or peel a tangerine and throw it in the mix, and a handful of ice cubes. Hit the switch and what comes out is a wonderful smoothie, that is healthful, about 150 calories (use only unsweetened fruit juices) and taste great. I have this every morning during my Bible time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kdrobs from Smoothie the whole family loves I love this simple all fruit smoothie! The texture is great - and I really like that I don't need to add yogurt. I sometimes add in frozen raspberries to the recipe (handful) for a nice sweet taste (masks the banana taste a bit).

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bethany from Super tasty!!! I bought my Vitamix a few weeks ago and have been experimenting with smoothie recipes. This is one of my faves! The flavor is great and it's not too sweet. I used frozen blueberries that seemed to make it even better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Homer J from My Daily Breakfast I eat this every day. I use half a banana and a full cup of berries. I also use a tablespoon or two of plain yogurt. If I don't have an orange it works great with an apple too. Core the apple but don't peel it. The vitamix makes you forget there was a peel. I love this contraption.

I understand with citrus the need to avoid the white pith because of the bitterness. When using the Vitamix 5200 series, can I use the banana peel and the outer layer of the pineapple?
It is possible to use both of those ingredients. However, if you use the banana peel you will get a different texture as well as a bitter taste. The outside of the pineapple will leave your smoothie with an earthy flavor rather than a sweet flavor.

When using Oranges, lemons, do you always have to peel them.
We recommend peeling the oranges and lemons as the white part of the peel is very bitter and will impart that flavor into the blend. If you would like you can zest the orange to get the flavor from the exterior.
